In this post we will learn what Alexa Rank is and how to affect it.
Alexa Internet, Inc. is a California-based subsidiary company of Amazon.com, but was originally it’s own company which got its name from the Library of Alexandria. Amazon purchased Alexa in 1996 for $250 million in Amazon stock. Wow wouldn’t it be nice to have a piece of that.
Prior to March 31st 2009 Alexa ranked sites based on their Alexa toolbar stats. The Alexa toolbar had to be installed on your visitors site and had to be view with the toolbar active for Alexa to collect data about your site and give it an Alexa rank. On March 31st 2009 Alexa did a complete redesign in order to compete with other services such as Compete.com and Quantcast. The redesigned metrics include Pageviews per User, Bounce Rate, and Time on Site as well as Demographics, Clickstream and Search Traffic stats.
Let’s talk about your sites traffic.
Do you have a steady stream of traffic each day that is spending time on your site and reading multiple pages? If you answered yes than I’m sure your Alexa rank is in good shape and getting better everyday. If you answered no, than that is your problem. In order to have a daily positive affect on your Alexa rank than you need multiple visitors viewing multiple pages and spending time on your site.
So how do you get visitors to your site?
The simple answer is new content, new content, new content. This post is new content, so examine your niche and implement a plan to add 1-3 new pieces of original content to your site each day. If you find it hard to find time to add new content everyday, than try to find some friends who enjoy spending time on the computer and have them add some new content. After you add your new content be sure to ping your new content. If you commit to adding new content on a daily basis and ping the new content, then you will increase your traffic and have a positive affect on your Alexa rank.
